Picture of Mickey explaining retrospective hindsight

Retrospective Hindsight

There is a bias in human nature called “retrospective hindsight” that means that people tend to think that past events are more predictable than they were at the time they happened. Curiously enough you can harness this bias to help expand the options you might consider for a given goal. It’s a brain hack that turns up this bias and unlocks imaginative thinking. Sometimes this method of ideation is called “prospective hindsight” because it harnesses your hindsight bias for future thinking. In this short video Mickey McManus and Massimo Russo from BCG’s Transformation Academy explain how it helps leaders tackle tough challenges and build capacity.
